We meet again

I don’t think I mentioned that I decoded to go ahead and get another iPhone! I was thinking against it for a long time until I started getting lots of freelance opportunities and felt like I really needed something easier to be able to check my mail and stay connected.

I learned the annoying way that it makes life easier when I know what’s going on when you have a smart phone. Can you imagine running a home based business before smart phones existed?! I don’t know if I’d even make it out of bed in the morning without having my phone alarm go off ;)

I didn’t get the iPhone 4g for two reasons: 1, I didn’t want to wait the 3 weeks + to actually receive the phone. By the time I decided to go ahead and upgrade, I was ready to have my new phone NOW so I went for the 3gs. I would’ve considered waiting if I wasn’t hearing about how many issues the 4G was having. PLUS the 3gs was $100 cheaper and really made the decision to upgrade much easier.

I couldn’t be happier!

Scared

Lo and I have a morning routine during the week that we follow pretty much every day. It’s not to a T, but there are just things that have to get done. Eating breakfast, showering, packing her bag, feeding the dogs, dishes, laundry… you know, just stuff.

Anyway, every morning a few minutes before we set out I start the car and load up our bags so the car is nice and cooled down by the time I get Lo settled. One particular morning when I was getting the car started I noticed all of my stuff was strewn everywhere. The back seat was folded down, the glove box was open and it was definitely not something Vernon would’ve done.

I called him 800 times trying to get a hold of him because I was positive he most likely didn’t even notice that his car had been gone through. Turns out they stole his Garmin GPS that I got him for Christmas :( Now it has us sooo paranoid, even considering having wireless cctv cameras installed on our home. Was it a random person? Was it someone we know?

IS SOMEONE WATCHING US??

Changing

Car insurance is tricky. It seems like just when you find the cheapest, something becomes cheaper. We went from 5th wheel insurance, to Progressive, and now to State Farm. We checked out Geico before Progressive and the price seemed really steep, only just the other day my coworker said she’s saving a lot more by switching to Geico.

I just don’t really know. Right now is the time where we’re trying to minimize all of our bills for our household, so it gets a bit frustrating to think we could be missing out on a good deal. Recently we cut off the digital cable to settle for basic cable and a Netflix account. This reminds me that I need to take back our cable boxes!

Must get that done THIS week. Would be nice if I wasn’t running late for a change. I don’t know what’s up with me but lately I haven’t been able to get out bed early. It doesn’t help that Lo has suddenly been waking up at random hours of the night. Last night was 3am, nights before it was 1. When it happens I think OH MY GOD!!! SO TIRED!! I have no idea how I managed to go every single night without a solid night’s sleep when she was tiny. It really blows my mind.

CVSin’ and more

My couponing has been going fabulous. Today I decided to try out CVS, which I was kinda nervous about because a lot of the time to get the best deals you need to purchase your items in separate transactions. I was worried the cashier might give me a hard time about it, so I finally asked around and decided I would take all my items to the register, check out once and go to the end of the line and wait for my turn again.

Now I feel silly for being worried about it and happy to announce that my first CVS trip was awesome. I pretty much made $2. I got 2 bottles of contact solution that I had two coupons for. I owed $2.50 something and got back enough to pay for a package of diapers (sorry–my receipts are in the car!) and two packs of m&ms (I had coupons for all of these) as well as getting $4 in ECBs back for my next trip.

Another fun trip was one we made to Walgreens on my birthday. We spent $37.25 and saved $70.48. We got lots of good stuff like Airwick Freshmatic kits for 75%, deodarant… you know things you buy at Walgreens!

I didn’t do a big grocery run but I did get a few things we need to try and make our own pickles, which we will hopefully get to this weekend. I’d also like to blanch some squash for us to freeze and eat during the winter. I did get some good deals on Spaghetti O’s (FREE!) and some Tombstone pizzas for 50 cents each.

I honest am in love with couponing and I think finally making my first trip to CVS today will only make it worse.

Goodwill

I love Goodwill. My cousin goes to thrift stores often and is able to find tons of great stuff, but we only make it every now and then and still manage to find great stuff! There’s such a variety of clothing, you can find random things like equestrian clothing to school uniforms and every day t-shirts. Vernon will periodically stock up on shirts and jeans for work in attempt to keep his work clothes separate from the clothes he would wear if we were going out.

I’m not very interested in the clothing anymore but I do love the “home” sections where you find dishes and jars and all of that. I love looking for unique and retro items to hang in my home or use in my kitchen! Just talking about it is making me want to take a trip to our local Goodwill ;)

Swing

I mentioned previously that we really need a tool shed in our back yard to get things a little nicer looking. After we get one of those, it’ll be time to upgrade our outdoor furniture to something not so… weathered. I was given a nice swing that I loved (although I get major motion sickness so I never actually swung on it).

As Lo is getting bigger, I really want our yard to be somewhere that we can spend evenings together while the sun goes down. As soon as she outgrows her Little Tykes swing, we’ll be getting her a bigger swing set with a slide to play on.

I’m not wishing away her being a baby but I admit I am very excited to watch her grow.

Last minute grocery trip

Vernon is the cook in our house. It doesn’t mean that he’s always the one to cook, (I’d say it’s 50/50) but he’s the GOOD cook. He is usually one to grill out on his charcoal grill, and anytime he’s cooking on the grill it is guaranteed to be an amazing meal. We’ve looked at electric grills in the past, but we just love the taste of something cooked on a charcoal grill.

My favorite thing for Vernon to cook on the grill is obviously steak. He also makes amazing brocolli and cheese and portabella mushrooms.

Mmm mm mm, I think I’ll have to get some steaks and charcoal this week!
