иконописиконографияIt’s been over a week since I’ve blogged, but I assure you there is a good reason for this. This past Tuesday evening I started to feel some pain in my lower back. Now, back pain is nothing new to me. I am somewhat top heavy, which affects my posture which in turn affects my back. But this back pain was much different than what I’m used to.

So instead of sweeping like I was originally doing, I put my broom down and decided to take it easy on the couch with Vernon. Well, that night I woke up in the middle of the night in horrible pain. I am TOUGH when it comes to pain, so when Vernon woke up at 2 am to me crying he was shocked. He got me a heating pad and some Advil and I finally made it back to sleep. I took it easy again the next day, only to wake up in the middle of the night again in even worse pain.

I was starting to think I had lost my mind. I didn’t do anything to pull my back, and I had no other noticeable symptoms. Finally, on Thursday, my coworker asked how I was doing and I busted out crying right there at my desk. This is so unlike me, but after three days of constant pain I was worn down. I left work to go to the doctor to find out I have a kidney infection that started out as a UTI.

I hate going to the doctor because of all the waiting. I waited for at least three hours while thinking about how weird it must be to work Medical or Health Services Manager Jobs. The doctor looked at me like I was insane when I was explaining my issues, but the nurse took a blood and urine sample to determine it was my kidneys that were killing me. A huge shot and some antibiotics later, and I’m feeling alright. Which is much better than awful, but I have four more days of medicine to take. The pain has moved from my back into my side, and it isn’t as bad. I’m so ready to be 100% better. I haven’t felt this horrible in a long time.

This past Sunday was a very, very bad day for us. I can’t really go into details publicly but basically it involves a relative (we’ll call her “R”) and the police. After all the drama that happened over the course of the day, we decided to look up her records to see if she had any warrants. Looking them up in our county is super easy and I actually have the website memorized, but of course we couldn’t find anything for the actual county we were looking for.

So of course we kept searching and came across PeopleSmart.com where they were offering a free 7-day trial when you sign up. Normally I don’t mess with this kind of stuff, but since it was free and we were really wanting to find the information we needed I thought, “What the heck. Let’s check it out and cancel the trial after we look her up.”

The signup process was quick and I made absolutely sure to read all the fine print to ensure we weren’t falling into a trap or scam. We were never taken to a cart to check out. There was no order confirmation, although I did have to enter my credit card information. On the SAME page where you give that info, there is a blurb in small print that says your credit card will not be charged during the 7 days.

After we were signed up and logged in, we found R on the website but of course to get those results, they wanted to charge us 99 cents. By this point we were both irritated, tired, and ready to say screw it. I searched through my account settings and removed my credit card information that they had on file. I also canceled the trial and went on with the rest of my day.

On Tuesday morning, I checked my bank account and there is a hold on $39.95 for, you guessed it, PeopleSmart.com. I tried not to get angry or upset and just tell myself that it was just a hold and they would probably take it back off once they realized I canceled my trial. WRONG. The next day I check and see that, sure enough, the $39.95 had gone through and been taken from my account. At that point I was SO angry that I rushed to their website to find a number to contact them. Of course there is no phone number on the “contact us” page, so I sent them a message using the provided form:

You ought to be ashamed of yourselves. I want my money back. I signed up for a FREE SEVEN DAY TRIAL and was charged a separate fee of $39.95, when at no point was this confirmed during the singup process. I wouldn’t have wasted my time with this terrible service if I knew it was a SCAM.

PLEASE REFUND MY MONEY.

Their response:

Thank you for contacting PeopleSmart.com about your recent purchase.

Your purchase included a Background Report which includes a single report on the individual you searched for $39.95. You also signed up for a 7-day free trial membership which you canceled on 7/17/2011. You were not billed for the membership fee.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

I replied and asked them to terminate my entire account, and of course they said they removed my credit card. Well, that’s interesting considering I had already removed it myself… ? I was so frustrated I let Vernon know what was going on and scoured their website for an phone number to call. The first person he talked to hung up on him for “threatening his company.” He did not threaten his company, he stated that he would file a claim with the Better Business Bureau. That was not a threat, that’s exactly what we were going to do. He continued to call back until someone agreed to give us our money back. Meanwhile, I decided to google reviews of the company. Lo and behold, the same thing was happening to everyone else. It doesn’t surprise me that the thought of Vernon contacting the BBB had them all bent out of shape. Eventually Vernon was promised a refund, but I saved all the links and reviews and anything I would need to escalate this with my bank as well as send copies to the BBB.

I feel so dumb to have fallen for this, I will never give my credit card information to any site for anything free ever again! We read all the fine print, were on top of canceling the trial and yet we still got totally screwed. I will update on the status of my refund if there ever is one. We won’t hesitate to call back and raise more hell, and I am DEFINITELY not going to sit here and let someone take my money without doing my best to get it back and hopefully save someone else from this madness.

Hell, even if they do refund my money I think I will send my complaint anyway.

Edit: They refunded my money today! Woohoo!

Heck, I think they may be crucial if I ever decide to move again. Which I won’t, I hate moving and I love my house so that settles that.

I just can’t wait for this day to be over and I really hate that, I hate wishing my days away because I’m stuck doing something I don’t want to do. Life would be better if I could just find joy in what I’m doing regardless of what it is, or whether I have to or not.

I’ve been eating like a pig lately, last night we ordered pizza hut and today I had a massive lunch from Chilis. The burger was big but it wasn’t really even good. Definitely wasn’t worth my nine dollars and five cents.

Oh well, really no need to pay for something that’s just meant to get taken off anyway.

I really want some chocolate, but I don’t have any. I really must be menstrual because I don’t normally care much for chocolate and it would explain this wretched mood I’ve been in all day and can’t seem to get out of. It’s like I’m agitated by everything… like the fact that my boyfriend isn’t texting me enough today. OMG!

It’s a really rainy day today and this morning while I was lying in bed trying to force myself out for work, I noticed a dripping sound. I glanced around to make sure it wasn’t any of the dogs doing something silly but quickly realized it sounded like a leak in the roof, I could hear water dripping on the ceiling.

This is so angering to me because the house was legally mine on March 22nd, the people I bought it from purchased a warranty for me that lasted a year. Now I’m not sure if the roof is even covered by the warranty, but I’ve not had a reason to use it until oh, 3 days before my warranty runs out.

Why do things always work out that way? Why is it that I’m always getting screwed over in any way possible? I told my boyfriend and he’s going to have a look at it because he works construction and he knows these things, but I’m sure it can’t be good. I remember a leak that was in my granny’s roof once and it was a huge ordeal. I don’t feel like going through all of that.

I also hate it when a site is using a teeny tiny font that requires a damn magnifier to even read what it says. I admit my current font isn’t as large as it could be, but you can generally pull off small font sizes with san serif fonts. If I were using Times New Roman for example I doubt you could read a word.

Today is Monday which means I hate my life at the moment because I hate working, especially when it’s for such a long period of time. This weekend was pretty fun, some folks came over on Saturday including Les and I got really drunk. Then I spent Sunday lounging around doing a whole lot of nothing, pantless. That’s right, I boycotted pants yesterday. Not that I really need them my legs are so hairy it’s like a thin layer of fur.

Ha ha haaa, I know you wanted to know that.
