There have been times in my life when I viewed credit cards as a really bad idea. When I was first starting off as a credit card holder, I didn’t make the best decisions and ended up with some hefty debt. However now that I am an established adult, I no longer view credit cards as a death threat.
In other experiences, I have found myself with a credit card through a company that I wasn’t fond of. This taught me that it is important to compare credit cards before you go ahead and get one. You should also consider balance transfer credit cards, which can help you break your ties with the icky companies who are only out to charge you unnecessary fees, alter your due dates each month keeping you from ever being able to pay your bill on time, and APRs that are far too high.
My advice to someone looking for a credit card would be to make sure the overall limit on the card is a manageble one. The thing that helped me most was being able to pay off my entire limit with one paycheck, so there was no reason for it to pile up!
