I like being scared, but not too scared.

I have always been a huge fan of scary stories and horror movies. The scariest and most believable ones I’ve been told are those of the Bell Witch, all originating in good ole Tennessee, the home of Boog.

The Bell Witch was an entity who taunted a family in the Bell Mansion for about 4 years. A movie was released about the Bell Witch but I did not see it, I heard it wasn’t very good… I did not want my thoughts and ideas of the Bell Witch to be messed with. The Bell Witch haunted real people in real places, her actions have been witnessed by actual people (General Andrew Jackson included) and books upon books have been written about her.

In the early 1800’s, John Bell moved from North Carolina to Robertson County, TN… only a hop skip and a jump from where I grew up. The Bells began to encounter strange things, like odd animals in their fields and strange noises that resembled someone beating outside walls of their home. The more of a reaction the Bell Witch received from the Bells and the outside community, the more she began to act out. She went from singing, quoting scriptures and having intelligent conversation to being violent and physical… including pulling hair and slapping those who lived in the home..

I really enjoy spookiness and being scared but when it goes further than just being an interesting mystery I think ghosts, spirits, entities, whatever you want to call them are frightening. If I knew that I were about to visit a haunted place, I would be very scared to go especially if I were being warned. I would most likely not stay in a hotel room that is said to be haunted nor would I visit a house where I could be in danger.

There are many different recounts of the Bell Witch and her hauntings. My cousin and I planned many times to go see what is left of the Bell Mansion as it is said that the Bell Witch still haunts a cave nearby. Some people just need to see it for themselves – similar to a supernatural writer in the new 1408 Movie by Stephen King (starring John Cusack). He is writing a book and wants to stay in a notoriously haunted hotel room where even the Hotel Manager warns him of the dangers he is facing.

I may be a pansy but I do believe that would be enough to make me say “Alrighty then, check ya later!” and be on my merry way. Just because I wouldn’t stay in room 1408 it doesn’t mean I don’t want to see the 1408 Movie, though. :P

Cause I’m like that.

The past few days have been rough, but when it boils down to it today I am alive and well and this is what is important.

I’ve been bowling a lot and I am actually getting pretty good at it. I think I’ve managed to see past the fact that the bowling alley we go to was quite possibly my grandmother’s favorite place to be when s he still walked the earth. But she’s dead now, and again, as mean and cold as it is, that is also what is important.

Cause I’m sure if she were the one who were alive and well, I on the otherhand would be dead. Maybe I don’t know, I probably would have driven my car off a cliff or something really dramatic.
